Dr. Rob Hammon has over 20 years experience in the area of clean energy RD&D, energy-efficient and sustainable design, policy development, and new and emerging technologies evaluation and commercialization. Earlier, Dr. Hammon led ConSol’s consulting division - developing clean energy solutions for residential new construction and retrofits -, research and demonstration projects for governments, utilities and industry at the local, state, and federal levels. ConSol's consulting division is now part of BIRAenergy. Work under Dr. Hammon’s direction encompassed new and existing building research including: energy-savings and renewable-energy assessments; energy-efficient building design; market analyses; carbon and other greenhouse gas assessments; energy-efficiency program design and implementation; interpretation of regulations; and training programs.

In 2005, Dr. Hammon was named to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Energy Efficiency Subcommittee Green Action Team. In early 2006 he was tapped to co-chair the New Solar Homes Partnership Advisory Committee to advise the California Energy Commission staff and commissioners how to create the most effective program to encourage solar technology in new home construction. He pioneered quality construction and “Zero Energy Homes” as market drivers for energy efficiency, especially via voluntary programs. He developed builder protocols for energy-efficient quality construction as well as for installation and commissioning of residential photo-voltaic systems. In 2002, Dr. Hammon assembled a national research team and successfully secured funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for innovative research projects that in 2003 began to build and test marketable prototype homes and communities that are 40-100 percent more energy efficient than typical new homes. Dr. Hammon has an extensive background working and partnering with various government entities, including the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Office of Technology, and U.S. Department of Defense, and state and local governments. Dr. Hammon has earlier worked at Stanford Research Institute (SRI).

Dr. Hammon earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. from the University of California. He has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including Associate of the Year award from the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association, U.S. EPA Ally of the Year award, and Pacific Gas & Electric Company Energy Efficiency Services Excellence award. He holds several U.S. patents.
